WW1: Australians, as a member of the British empire, expressed huge amounts of support for Australia's entry into the war alongside the 'Mother Country'. |
WW1:
In 1914 Australia's population was less than 4 million people. Throughout the course of the war Australians gave 324,000 men to serve overseas! 61, 720 were killed, 155,000 wounded, and 4044 Prisoners of War. |
WW2: Almost a million Australian men and women served in World War Two! |
WW2: For the first time the Australian mainland came under attack with the Japanese bombing of Darwin and midget submarine attacks on Sydney Harbour. |

We will discuss what caused these wars, where Australians fought and what encouraged them to take part. Within many sections of information you will be directed to sources beyond what is on this website and will be required to read them so that you can fulfill the tasks. There are 3 interactive tasks at the end of each topic. Make sure you keep your completed tasks close by as you will need them to complete the final assessment at the end.
